Build the Right Partnerships Step 4 Who else should be part of this?

03 . The Caribbean Social Innovator’s Guide

Most social and environmental problems are too complex for one person or organisation to solve alone. Lasting change is often created by people, organisations and communities working together, each contributing something different. Some partners may have specialist knowledge, space, equipment, funding, relationships, or access to the people you hope to reach. Who already knows this community well? Who has experience you could learn from? Is there a local organisation, business, government agency, university or community group already working on part of the challenge? This step helps you identify who can contribute, where your strengths complement each other and how to build partnerships that work for both partners. The Caribbean Social Innovation Resources section includes guidance and a Directory that can be helpful in understanding and identifying possible partnerships.

Things to Consider Building partnerships is about discovering how your strengths or resources can complement one another. Partnerships are not about handing your idea to someone else. They are about creating something stronger together than either of you could achieve alone.

• What do I bring? • What do they bring? • What can we achieve together? • How can we ensure everyone benefits from the partnership?
