A Caribbean Social Innovation Guide
Step 1 Starting with a Problem
Whether you’re responding to a challenge in your community, starting a new venture or strengthening an existing initiative, social innovation begins with people and grows through learning, collaboration and action. These seven steps provide a practical pathway to help you move from recognising a problem to creating lasting impact. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin; many of the best ideas evolve through listening, testing and learning along the way. You may already have an idea. You may simply know that something in your community is not working as well as it should. Perhaps you have been trying to solve the problem for years, but need a clearer way forward. Wherever you are starting, this section will help you take the next step. We will begin by looking more closely at the problem, the people affected and the ideas that might help. From there, we will explore how to test your idea, find partners, choose the right path, secure support and grow your impact. Wherever you are on your social innovation journey, support may be closer than you think. Explore the Resources section to help you put these seven steps into action. You do not need to have every answer before you begin. Social innovation develops through listening, trying, learning and improving..
