Agriculture The Caribbean has embarked on the implementation of a strategic plan that seeks to reduce food imports by 25% by the year 2025. To achieve this outcome, investment in the region´s agricultural and fisheries sector has been prioritized to ensure food and nutrition security and export growth. Opportunities exist for year-round food production given the varied micro-climates in the region, large acreages for organic production, soil types suitable for a number of crops, available water supply, year-round sunshine and the opportunity to take advantage of the region´s focus on the AgTech subsector. ICT and Business Process Outsourcing The Caribbean has also prioritized investment in the digital economy, from building technological resilience in firms and the public sector to the attraction of Fintech firms and the positioning of the business processing outsourcing sector as a key avenue to drive job creation. With regard to the latter, the region has placed emphasis on shared services and finance and accounting outsourcing, two sub-sectors for which it has a strong competitive edge with the desired multilingual highly trained talent, proximity to North America, strong telecommunications infrastructure and a policy environment that supports growth in the outsourcing sector. Logistics and Transportation Developing the Air/Maritime Transport Infrastructure and Services to improve accessibility and mobility for people and goods within the region is also a priority for the region´s governments. Investments in this sector are given high priority as they will lead to enhanced competitiveness at the global level, improving access to traditional and non-traditional markets, improving maritime and air transport reliability, efficiency, safety and security, establishing a single/integrated airspace and creating significant offshoot benefits for the region´s private sector. All the region´s territories have development plans for their airports, seaports and ground transportation routes creating a wealth of opportunities for investment.
