Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd. Narayana Hrudayalaya Limited (NHL), Bengaluru, India started its operation in the year 2000. It is a chain of low cost and high-quality hospitals promoted by Mr. Devi Prasad Shetty, a renowned cardiac surgeon. He started Narayana Health City (NHC) in Bengaluru which currently houses a cluster of hospitals and research centres providing a range of medical services. NHL was started as a specialty hospital for heart surgeries and thereafter it has expanded its services to other medical specialties and also entered into different geographies. Its first facility established in Bengaluru had approximately 225 operational beds and it has since grown to 25 hospitals, 7 heart centres and a network of primary care facilities across India and also set up an international hospital in the Cayman Islands. The group has approximately 6232 operational beds through a combination of greenfield projects and acquisitions. NHL’s low-cost healthcare business model is also a case study in the Harvard University. NHL’s average cost for a cardiac surgery is USD 1500 compared to cost of USD 1,44,000 for same surgery in USA. Presently, NHL has a total of 16,311 full-time employees and associates including 3491 doctors.
