Enhancing India CARIFORUM Economic Relations and Prospects for Cooperation

Indian Investments in Guyana During the period April 1996 to March 2021, India’s overall OFDI to Guyana amounted to US$ 24.1 million. Thus, Guyana was the second largest destination for Indian investments in the CARIFORUM region. All of India’s investments during the period were directed towards the agriculture and mining sector. Indian bank- Bank of Baroda has a subsidiary in Guyana called Bank of Baroda (Guyana) Inc since 1966. Indian Investments in Barbados India’s investments in Barbados during the period April 1996 to March 2021 amounted to US$ 23.5 million. Over 95 percent of Indian investments in Barbados were recorded during April 1996 to March 2011. Post 2011, Indian investments in the country have been marginal and they are directed towards financial, insurance and business services and community social and personal services sectors. Indian Investments in Trinidad and Tobago During April 1996 to March 2021, India’s investments in Trinidad and Tobago amounted to US$ 10.9 million. US$ 8.2 million were invested during financial year 2019-20 in the financial, insurance and business services sector. India’s Bank of Baroda’s subsidiary- Bank of Baroda (Trinidad and Tobago) Ltd was operating in Trinidad and Tobago since 2007 and in July 2021, ANSA Merchant Bank ltd acquired Bank of Baroda (Trinidad and Tobago) ltd. Indian investments in rest of the CARIFORUM countries are miniscule as they amounted to only US$ 6.4 million during April 1996 to March 2021 period. Majority of these investments were in the financial, insurance and business services.
