FROM POTENTIAL TO PERFORMANCE:

DRIVING EXPORTS THROUGH TARGETED PROGRAMMES

Regional Private Sector Development Programme III Building the Capacity of the Region Throughout 2025, Caribbean Export sought to advance its mandate to strengthen the Caribbean private sector, focusing on competitiveness, resilience and sustainability by supporting firms to adapt to the ever-evolving global trade environment. Amid an increasingly complex global trade environment, Caribbean Export delivered a suite of targeted, donor-funded capacity building interventions aimed at improving export-readiness, advancing logistics, fostering innovation, and strengthening regulatory and standards compliance among MSMEs and BSOs across the region. These interventions were designed and implemented to address both firm level constraints and systematic barriers to trade, equipping beneficiaries with the practical skills, market-relevant knowledge and tools to enhance internal capabilities, thus reducing the barriers our MSMEs face in trading sustainably. Collectively, the activities undertaken in 2025 aligned with regional development priorities and reflected the shared objectives of Caribbean Export and its strategic partners, particularly in advancing sustainable private sector development. Strengthening Intellectual Property in Dominica Caribbean Export commenced 2025 partnering with Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) to deliver a four-part Intellectual Property (IP) training series aimed at increasing awareness and practical understanding of IP protection among MSMEs in Dominica. The programme was implemented from December 2024 to March 2025, as a response to a gap in MSMEs knowledge and uptake of IP systems, including the perceived complexity of IP processes and the cost barriers associated with registration and enforcement. The overall objective was to increase capacity, awareness and exposure of MSMEs to key IP concepts and to encourage firms to take concrete steps to pursue some form of IP protection following participation. Thus, the workshop was designed to help MSMEs understand the benefits and consequences of IP, including the practical steps required to register, police and maintain intellectual property rights. Enhancing Export Readiness through ProNET ProNET is the Agency’s business management training programme for MSME owners seeking to grow and increase competitiveness. ProNET has combined case-study based learning with practical examples and assignments through structured exercise, group work, open discussion and brainstorming, ensuring that participants leave with practical tools that can be applied directly into their business operations. The 2025 ProNET interventions engaged a combined cohort of 35 BSOs and MSMEs primarily from the Agriculture and Agri-business sector. Workshops set out to improve product quality, increase operational efficiency and reduce waste in the production process. The activities also sought to strengthen innovative thinking and adaptability among employees, while enhancing participants’ understanding of international trade regulations, thus reducing risk of non compliance and legal challenges in export markets. Additionally, Caribbean Export successfully completed the modernisation of the ProNET training programme. The updated suite of ProNET modules now offers a contextually relevant e-learning content that reflects current business realities, integrates digital transformation, and emphasizes sustainability and competitiveness. Building on this modernisation, the digitisation approach was built around four delivery pillars – accessibility (including low-bandwidth
