With the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, traders in the EU have been bracing for changes at the border that will relate to differences in Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures, and which are due to come into effect under the UK’s Border Operating Model (BOM). For Goods, including those of CARIFORUM producers that are transhipped through the UK, this will mean more paperwork and require more due diligence in order to ensure that the documentary requirements are complied with to avoid any additional trade costs (direct and indirect), as a result of the increased time and cost associated with making any administrative and other adjustments, including the cost of storage of goods if there are delays. A review of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) data from the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Information Management System (SPS IMS) over the period January 1 2020 to August 30, 2021, shows six (6) notifications from the United Kingdom (Great Britain) - G/SPS/N/GBR/5, G/SPS/N/GBR/6, G/SPS/N/GBR/7, G/SPS/N/GBR/8, G/SPS/N/GBR/9, G/SPS/N/GBR/10.
