More investments flowed into the UK from CARIFORUM than did the reverse during the period 2013 to 2019, with total net investments of US$1.85 billion leaving the region’s shores to find safe harbour in the UK, representing actual investment rather than repatriated earnings. Interestingly, however, the region’s outbound investments into the UK only represented a drop in the bucket, as the UK accounted for only 0.3% of CARIFORUM’s total investment outflows during the period of assessment, suggesting that the UK was not a preferred market for CARIFORUM FDI. The Bahamas led the way as the region’s largest net outbound investor in the UK, with total net investments of US$116 million or 6.3% over the period. This was followed by Belize with US$3.94 million of net investment, notwithstanding the fact that Barbados made the single largest annual investment into the UK of US$1.23 billion in 2018. However, Barbados closed the period with total net disinvestment of US$3.6 billion, following the repatriation of US$4.83 billion worth of assets to the UK in 2019. Previous data for 2017 help to support the view that the UK is a major investment destination, both among its then EU 28 counterparts as well as globally, placing fourth overall in the EU, due to its share of imports which occurred via Mode 3. This suggests that, underlying this level of import performance, is a relatively strong presence of branches, subsidiaries and other Foreign Affiliates
