CARIFORUM and UK EPA Study

The limited available data also appear to suggest that UK investors should mainly be courted for inward investments in relation to the Mode 3 commercial establishment of Foreign Affiliates in the Other Business Services and Financial Services sectors, though significant opportunities may also be available for commercial establishment in the Telecommunications, Computer and Information services, Transport services and Distribution services sectors.

CARIFORUM Countries Attracting UK Investment

As already confirmed above, the United Kingdom is a major source market for investment globally, with close to US$124 billion worth of net investments going to third countries during the period 2013 to 2019 (See Table 45 below) , and with its outbound investments showing overall improvement during the assessment period. Of that amount, the CARIFORUM region was the recipient of just over 1.2% or US$1.53 billion worth of net investments during the seven year period, with UK direct investment in CARIFORUM remaining on a persistent downward trend, ending the period with US$26 million worth of disinvestment in 2019. The largest recipients of UK FDI over the eight year period were Barbados, with total net investments of US$1.3 billion, followed by Saint Lucia with US$409 million of net inward flows from the UK. These countries were followed by The Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda and Belize, respectively, which rounded out the top five investment destinations for UK investors within CARIFORUM, based on net investment, with a combined share of US$415 million of net inbound FDI flows during the period 2013 to 2019.
