CARIFORUM and UK EPA Study

On the other hand, Barbados’ most competitive services export sector was Charges for the Use of Intellectual Property, followed by Other Business services and Insurance and Pension services. Belize was mostly competitive in the export of Government Goods and Services, while showing a positive trend in its RRCA indices for Telecommunications, Computer and Information services exports. Dominic a also showed overwhelming competitiveness in relation to the latter sector as well, compared to its other exports, including Other Business services which ranked second overall. Guyana was extremely competitive in the export of Financial Services, but had a very strong showing in relation to the competitiveness of its exports of Charges for the use of IP, though this was earlier in the period of assessment. Sectors such as Insurance and Pension services, Telecommunications, Computer and Information services and Other Business services were also highly competitive sectors in Guyana’s exports to the UK. The overall picture for Guyana, therefore, suggests a significant amount of untapped potential in the area of services vis-à-vis the UK as a target market. Haiti exhibited strong domestic competitiveness in its exports of Government Goods and Services, though the strength of that competitiveness declined to almost a third by the end of the period. Haiti also showed some domestic competitive strength in the export of Financial services during the last six years of the period of assessment, closing out the period with an RRCA index of 11.1, though its exports of Travel services were more consistent than the latter, but which showed only weak comparative advantage throughout. Jamaica’s dominant export category was by far that of Personal, Cultural and Entertainment services, with the export of Telecommunications, Computer and Information services occupying second position. Both Transport and Travel services were also in the mix, but with either declining or largely static trends, respectively.
