CARIFORUM and UK EPA Study
Despite the inability to disaggregate or determine which specific sub-sectors were driving Suriname’s performance in this sub-category, the results indicated Suriname’s very strong comparative advantage in the export of these services to the UK, as well as an equally strong competitive advantage over nearest rivals Guyana, which closed out the last two years of the period 2008-2019 in a stronger position than Suriname. Only these two countries, however, exhibited a positive overall trend in competitive advantage arising from the upward trajectory of their respective RRCA indices. It is, however, notable that the level of competitiveness across CARIFORUM States in this sector was much closer during the first six years of the sample period, during which St. Vincent and the Grenadines returned strong RRCA indicators of up to 4.09. This may potentially be an indicator of a very dynamic market segment for CARIFORUM services providers seeking to export to the UK, and therefore that significant opportunities remain to be exploited there.
