92% of the respondents confirmed that they now had a better understanding of IP, while 100% confirmed that IP is important for their businesses. (4) Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Academy of Law’s 5th Biennial Conference on Law In 2016, Caribbean Export provided financial support to the Caribbean Academy for Law and Court Administration’s 4th Biennial Conference and continued to provide support to the legal field during the implementation of the 11th EDF, in particular IP, which plays a pivotal role in ensuring that CARIFORUM firms stay competitive and exportable. In this regard, the Agency provided financial support for two speakers to participate in the CCJ Academy of Law 5th Biennial Conference on Law which took place December 13-15, 2018 in Kingston, Jamaica. The event which was under the theme: ‘Future of the Legal Practice in the Caribbean: Catalyst for Regional Success?’ and was focused on IP legal issues. There were some challenges identified during the organization and execution of the event, mainly the lack of timely and proper communication with the on the ground partner. A main lesson learnt from the event was the importance of ensuring that relevant stakeholders, such as lawyers are aware of the importance of IP for businesses and the role they play in the protection of IP.

(5) Culture and Creative Industries Workshop The Culture and Creative Industries (CCI) remains a key area of focus of development for the Caribbean. Caribbean Export has played a role in further supporting the CCI through various missions/expos, platforms and strategy papers. The Agency continued this effort under the implementation of the 11th EDF. The Agency facilitated a Culture and Creative Industries Workshop on November 19-20, 2019 in Barbados. The Workshop brought together thirty-one (31) cultural practitioners from various areas of the sector including fashion, music, craft and visual arts. To build stronger strategic partnership and synergy, Caribbean Export extended an invitation to the firms that the Barbados Coalition of Services Industries sponsored to attend their Services Week, which was taking place over the same period. In return, the Coalition invited some of the firms that the 11th EDF programme sponsored to attend the CCI Workshop to take part in their Firefly Showcase which took place on November 18, 2019, two days prior to the Workshop. The cultural practitioners were from eight CARIFORUM countries namely Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
