SUPPORTING Youth Agro-Processors The Caribbean is a youthful region, with over 60% of the population under the age of 30 years. Despite this, youth unemployment rates remain highwith some studies estimating this can be nearly 3 times the national unemployment average. In view of this supporting the development of youth within our communities has become critical. Caribbean Export with the support of the European Union is committed to supporting youth in business contributing towards the region’s economic and social development. The Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) provides an excellent platform for youth in agro-processing to network and promote their goods and services while giving them a voice in industry discussions. Caribbean Export has sponsored the attendance of 8 youth owned business from across the CARIFORUM to attend CWA and to participate in the Agency’s booth (located at E 14) to showcase their innovative products using the region’s finest natural resources.

Red Diamond Compost

@reddiamondcompost

Red Diamond Compost is a Barbados based startup that manufactures organic and biologic crop protection and soil treatment products such as fertilizers, bio-stimulants, and soil conditioners. What makes their products so special is that they are made mostly from organic waste materials that would otherwise be dumped in the landfill or may be causing other environmental hazards. We take these materials and convert them into valuable end products to boost agricultural productivity, remove toxins from the food supply and strengthen food and nutrition security across the region. The primary example of Red Diamond’s first product developed to a commercial ready stage is the Super Seaweed Biostimulant, made from Sargassum Seaweed. We our also hoping to introduce a new product to the public during the expo.

BIG G’S is a micro agro processing company which specializes in sauces. It all started in September 2014 when I decided to take my passion and love of cooking to the next level simply by adding pepper to sauces I made for specific dishes. At first persons were a bit skeptical but when they actually taste the product they were impressed. Initially samples were given to restaurants around the town area and from then the orders started coming in.

We started to supply super- markets with over 21 flavors of different sauces such as turmeric, red roasted peppers, ginger and cinnamon, just to name a few. We supply all supermarkets on island and small shops. We also added 3 new products to our line which are garlic, roasted garlic all-purpose sauce and turmeric seasoning sauce.

The company also captured a few awards in the past 4 years; namely Local Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 in the youth awards and Regional Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015. We also captured the Best Quality and Most Innovative Products awards in 2016.
